An unbiased, statistical approach to an important question

What is better, a book or a movie? Let's look at the numbers:

Top selling DVD of 2010: Inception, 148 minutes (nearly 2.5 hours), approx. $30
Cost per hour of entertainment: about $12

Top selling book of 2010: The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest, 576 pages or approximately 230,400 words (based on approx. 400 words per page), about 15 hours at an average 250wpm reading, approx. $30 (hardcover list with tax).
Cost per hour of entertainment: about $2

Analysis: You would have to spend about $180 on new DVDs to match a $30 book.
